End of life Li-Ion batteries by 2030

Lithium ion Batteries (LiBs), is one of the most widely used and primary battery, and has become irreplaceable in our lives. They are not only essential for portable electronics, EVs, satellites and grids, but are also dominant in the global effort to tackle the challenges of renewable energy supplies and environmental pollution at the same time.

Journey of a battery

EV and cell manufacturing is growing at a rapid rate throughout the world.
The typical estimated life of a Lithium-Ion battery is about two to three years or 300 to 500 charge cycles, whichever occurs first.
Rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries have a limited life and will gradually lose their capacity to hold charge.
This loss of capacity is irreversible. Production waste represents significant economic and environmental burden if not properly managed.
Our unique patented technology can recover on average greater than 96% of materials like lithium, cobalt, copper, aluminium, nickel and spherical graphite in a lithium-ion battery.

the challenge

the crisis of spent li-ion batteries

Between now and 2030, 11 million metric tons of Li-ion batteries will be dumped into the landfills of which a minuscule fragment of less than 5%-6% only will be recycled.

environmental impact

Dumping of spent Li-ion batteries into landfills causes environmental damage – acidification, ozone depletion, photochemical smog, eutrophication to name a few. Mining, which is the most prevalent extraction method for Lithium is expensive and has severe environmental and societal impacts.

Supply & Demand Gap
Lithium is a limited resource with only 5-6 countries accounting for the majority of global production. Global demand for lithium is expected to reach 4500 gigawatt hours by 2030, with only 5%-6% of this projected supply coming from recycling indicating huge scope for increasing recycling rates. In the next ten years, the demand for lithium-ion batteries is anticipated to increase by 500%.
Economic Motivation
Procurement of Lithium and cobalt reserves face an alarming possibility of cost fluctuations primarily due to their concentration in a few geographies. Lithium prices increased by 738% from 2011 to 2021.

Unique and Patented

our process of Li-ion recycling

Our Lithium Ion Battery recycling is a  circular economy process that consists of the collection, dismantling, pre-processing, and processing of End of Life (EOL) Li-Ion batteries. A fresh cell is created from finished goods, utilised, and then retired when it reaches its (EOL).
Hydrometallurgy is at the core of our Technology. We have developed a proprietary Hybrid Hydro-Metallurgy™ (HHM) process to recycle end-of-life Lithium-ion batteries and battery manufacturing scrap.
